List Building and Traffic Generation

Hi! You may notice a change in things this week. Yes I have swapped my old theme for a new one, and I think it looks just great.
Happy news also - I have got Google Analytics working at long last. Just as I was about to give up on it I got the green tick that tells me where all my fantastic traffic comes from and how much there is of it.
You may have noticed I havent been about much the last few days. I have had a few days off, really considering my options and thinking about what I need to be focused on. I think I had a bit of information overload where I ended up thinking about doing other things. But my commitment lies with this course and with generating great traffic and working hard to build my business this year. I know there are other ways to make money online but I want a good solid base to start my business off from, and this is it!
I am constantly amazed at how easy it is to be distracted. I think it really pays to be organized. As an at home Mum I am fortunate that my husband works at home too so we have our childcare needs covered. It does mean though that we have to be organized so that we both get time to work. Its all too easy to say well I want to do this today and it’s important, and then you don’t get the work done that you need to do.
So we have devised ourselves a new routine which allows me to get stuck in with work again, hurrah!
The plan is to do what I have been doing, but keep at it more regularly. I also need to keep checking my G/analytics because I will be applying the 80/20 rule - finding out the 20% that gets me 80% of my traffic and concentrating on that. Work smarter!
I mentioned the video competition that Alex Jeffreys and Maria Andros are promoting for Alex students, and so I will be doing as much as I can to organize a great video. I have left this quite late and therefore am unlikely to win but I want to make a really top-notch video. Keep your eyes peeled for the link, it will be on here!
I enjoy visiting others blogs, and it does provide me with links, so I will also be adding the sites that I like best to my blogroll. I have only just thought about doing that but I think it will be a good idea plus make it easier for me to dive over to them and visit.
I am part way through an article which I would really like some opinions on, I hope to be posting it here tomorrow. It’s a different sort of style to my normal way of writing, and I will tell you more about it tomorrow.
The final thing I will be looking at is giveaways, some of Alex students have had real success with this. It would be best for me to write something completely original, but I do have some things that I can grab that are really helpful to new marketers, to add to List Building with Alex. I am looking forward to putting together an excellent package.
Until then,
Best wishes,
Ruth

List Building…..what List Building?
Posted by Gale10 in Uncategorized on December 20th, 2008
Hello,
I have to say there has been not much list building going on in my house today. The lurgy has well and truly taken hold today and no-one can be bothered to do every much at all. Fortunately we are well stocked up with groceries and medicine, and tissues!
I was thinking about how I started out in internet marketing, and wondering how anyone else came across it. I actually had an oppertunity to get to know about marketing around over two years ago. My husband is a friend of David Congreave, who is a co-author of Lucid SEO and the Lucid SEO blog. I was busy with lots of other things in my life at that time, doing some MLM and keeping up with the family and I didn’t take much notice when my husband mentioned The Nettle, the newsletter that David writes.
In the interim, we moved up here to Scotland from Leeds, where we knew David. I have fibromyalgia, and it means it’s difficult for me to comit to a job because my health can be very up and down. However, since I am usually much better in the summer, I always look for some work I can do for the summer months. It is usually poorly paid part-time work but it did give me a sense of dignity, that I was contributing something.
Well this summer I discovered selling books on Amazon. I was very pleased to do something from home, especially as I have a little boy not at school (21 months). So I get to it and buy books here and there and some money starts to trickle in, fantastic.
Because of this though, now I am on a mailing list, and advertised on it was an ebook about Clickbank. I bought it and thought WOW! this is great, why doesn’t everyone do this? It’s so simple! (Simple is different from easy though - I hadn’t realised it yet!)
When I told my husband about it, he told me: “You should phone David (Congreave) he talks about that stuff in the Nettle.” I phoned David and we had a chat about it, he gave me some advice, and I joined his mailing list. Then on the mailing list there was information about a seminar. I phoned David and he said to me “it’s not necessary to go to a seminar, but of all the people I know that are successful, they go to the seminars.”
So I took the money that I had made from selling the books on Amazon, and I booked my train and my hotel. David paid for anyone on his mailing list to have a ticket, so that was ok. It was a brilliant seminar, I learned loads and loads, and the thing that stood out most to me was that I needed a mentor. I also knew I couldn’t really afford one just yet.
The other thing that stood out was a young welsh guy who had been to the seminar before and had paid attention and made some serious money. It was like the enthusiasm was bursting out of his body, he was nervous and Sean Roach kept saying sit down, there was a chair for him on the stage, but he was so passionate it was like he could hardly keep still. I think the audience was more nerve-racking for him standing up so he did sit down and told us about what had happened to him, including the Oil Rig Illustration. Of course, it was Alex Jeffreys.
I went home with renewed enthusiasm, I worked hard and tried a few things that I learned on the course, but at the back of my mind I knew I needed a mentor. I thought about it and decided the one thing I knew I could make some money with were the books and eBay. So I kept on with that, and kept busy, still reading anything I could lay my hands on about internet marketing. I read all the emails from all the gurus that I had subscribed to, and of course I read David Congreaves emails too.
And that is how I got a copy of Gurus Dream - I saw the picture and thought, hang on, I recognise that guy. When I read the report I mailed Alex and told him I thought it was great, and he mailed me right back. I was impressed with that - here was a guy that responded to my emails. That got me on Alex mailing list, and that is how I knew when the mentoring became available. By this time I was convinced that Alex was genuine, and I signed up as soon as I could.
So that’s how I came to be on this course. Many thanks to David Congreave - check out his blog here - TheLucidBlog.com.
Ok, so that’s my story, what about yours?
Best wishes,
Ruth

Oh dear!

Hello,
Well I am sad to say I had to take the video off YouTube, because the writing wasn’t dark enough, it didn’t show up very well at all. I did it in a dark maroon, but it was white and colour in the middle, and it just looked too blurry, even after uping the quality. I am going to leave it now until after we have done module four of MarketingwithAlex.
Anyway, lots of bits and pieces to do today, I was going to take the boys out but I am still coldy and number two son is coughing a bit today, plus its pouring with rain (well it is Scotland!) so I will maybe leave it until the weekend. Number one son, age 6, wants to go to an interactive museum nearby, but I think perhaps number two son (20 months) will be bored. I will have to see.
So its back to work for me and lots of scraps to tidy up before the next challenge tonight from Module 4. I am going to make sure I have logins for as many social sites as possible ready, because that is what we are concentrating on, traffic from social networking. I can’t think of any other way to prepare really.
Best wishes,
Ruth

Third Video!
Posted by Gale10 in Uncategorized on December 17th, 2008
Hello,
I finished off the third video today. It has a few effects and I am speaking on it (blush) and I still have a bit of a cold, but well take a look and see what you think.
I have also added it on my Squidoo lens, which isn’t coming up at the moment, I am not sure why exactly as it does have a ranking number (a huge one! that means I am way down the list) so I really have no idea. I have read somewhere that Google loves Squidoo but I am not sure where I read it, I guess I will find out if it does anything for my ranking.
I have to say that my husband helped with the video, with the timing and the effects. He is moaning about his left eye - not sure why that one particularly but who knows with husbands?
As I have had obvious trouble with videos I am not going to put it on here, just do a link.
I am really looking forward to Module 4 tomorrow, I can’t wait to hear Alexs’ information. I have never understood Pay Per Click and much about keywords so I know I will have a lot to learn.
Right, lets go and see if YouTube have finished processing this vid!
Nope, not yet, I will add it as soon as I can.
I want to send this blog this side of midnight, I will add the video as soon as possible!
Best wishes,
Ruth
