Wealthy Affiliate - Tips For Finding A Niche

Hello,

Today I wanted to show readers where they can get ideas for a niche.

For many people interested in IM, finding a niche is the first of many puzzles that the need to sort out. This isn’t helped by the fact that some people say - write about what you know - about something you love. Somehow that makes any reasonable thought about something a person likes to do fly right out of their brain! We are left thinking “I don’t have anything I know much about” or “I don’t have anything I particularly am into!”

Others say find something that people love, a niche that is popular. Then find your own angle. That can be easier said than done.

I actually think that the reason people say write about what you know is because it is much easier to write say, thirty articles about something you are passionate about.

However, if you do not want to do that, then find something that is popular and interesting, a new trend. A good place to look for new trends is provided by Google. Google trends show you the things that people are putting into the search engines.  View Here. The URL is http://www.google.com/trends.

Another place to look is ebay pulse. View Here. The URL is http://pulse.ebay.com/.  You can see which are the things most people are looking for, this can give you good ideas for affiliate products.

Nearly everything you buy online is through an affiliate link on way or another. I have a few lenses at www.squidoo.com with which I promote affiliate products, and even though they have only been up for a couple of months, they have started to bring in a trickle of money. To be honest, I don’t spend a great deal of time on them, I should promote them more really. But even if they only bring in $20-30 every couple of weeks, it’s ok for something I spend minutes a week on. (Sometimes not even that! )

Another place you can go for niche information is dmoz. View Here. The URL is http://www.dmoz.com. Dmoz is a huge directory of all sorts of information and you can dig deep into a section to find a niche that suits you. It is totally free, as well.

Once you have decided on a niche, then you can go and look for affiliate companies. These will have lots of different online stores on their books which will provide you with banners. Then you put the banners on your site or on your lens, anywhere there is traffic. People click and when they buy something, you get a percentage. Obviously the more traffic you send, the more people will click, the more you money you will make.

I use a company that deals with UK businesses.  It’s called AffiliateWindow, View Here and it is pretty reliable. You do pay a deposit, I think it is to weed out wannabes but you do get it back after the first month with your earnings. There are hundreds like Affiliate Window all over the internet. Find one that suits you.

I wish you all the best with that!

Profit Lance Vs Wealthy Affiliate - a clear winner!

Hi there,

In my last post I was extolling the virtues of Profit Lance. But I have come across some drawbacks, sadly.

I think probably the biggest problem with Profit Lance is the fact that every person gets the same sites to practise on. Although it’s explained that the site are mainly to practise on, in the blurb they say it’s all you need to make money online. I don’t think that is strictly true.

First of all, if you want one of the 150 sites to use adsense on, you need hosting and a domain - which isn’t free. Also the templates do look rather dated. If 1,000 people all have access to the same sites, Google is never going to rank them because of the duplicate content. The few sites that a set up as clickbank affiliate sites are identical and you cannot add any more information to them, to make them different. Again, that’s an SEO nightmare.

I think for information, Profit Lance is good. Michael Andrews has the right idea, to teach information and back it up with projects. But although I thought at first he was over delivering, now I don’t necessarily agree.

I can tell you something else as well, which is a little bit creepy. Apparently Michael Andrews was previously a member of Wealthy Affiliate. The set out of  WA is almost identical to Profit Lance, and Wealthy Affiliate have instruction and then tasks. They have a keyword tool, and Profit Lance has a keyword tool. WA has a forum - which is part of the reason it is so brilliant - and Profit Lance doesn’t.

I think really that Profit Lance is a poor man’s version, and inferior one at that, to Wealthy Affiliate.

The reason Wealthy Affiliate is so good is often touted as the forum. But how come a forum is so good, so helpful? Lots of people of course are genuinely altruistic and that’s fantastic, but at Wealthy Affiliate there is another reason.

A genius came up with the idea of WA gold. When a person starts at Wealthy Affiliate they get five pieces of virtual gold, and they can give it out to people who help them. No-one has to pay for the gold, and I am guessing you get more gold every month. But if you are helpful and you do get gold - you can change it for real money. So being helpful has a non-altruistic benefit also.

I think this is part of the reason the forum is so positive and helpful; not the only reason certainly, but part of the reason because it encourages an ethos of cameraderie and friendship which has positive vibes of it’s own.

I told you in my last post that Profit Lance is rumoured to be changing to a monthly task. Well, that is the only “draw-back” to Wealthy Affiliate.  I say draw-back in “” because I do believe that it is worth the money.  For instance, one man earned over $500 in his first three weeks. I do not know how much he knew before he signed up, but seems like a good result to me. Maybe he got lucky - it’s more likely he  applied what he had learned on the 3 weeks of the 8 week course. And this is not an isolated case by any means.

I would urge anyone to have a look at Wealthy Affiliate. You can click on my link and take a tour which costs nothing,  and I think most people would be amazed at the resources that are put in. Not only is the training superb, (thats why they call it Wealthy Affiliate University) but also there is free hosting, a website builder so you do not need to know HTML, and NicheQ which is an amazing resource in itself. It contains all the information you need for a particular niche and you get  to pick a new niche each month.

I think the amount of money you can save by getting the free hosting, the site builder, and the information on new niches is worth the cost alone. When you then throw into the mix the forum of skilled marketers ready to help, then the value of the product shoots sky high.

Wealthy Affiliate. Click the link, have a look for yourself.

Best wishes,

Ruth
