List Building…..what List Building?

Hello,

I have to say there has been not much list building going on in my house today. The lurgy has well and truly taken hold today and no-one can be bothered to do every much at all. Fortunately we are well stocked up with groceries and medicine, and tissues!

I was thinking about how I started out in internet marketing, and wondering how anyone else came across it. I actually had an oppertunity to get to know about marketing around over two years ago. My husband is a friend of David Congreave, who is a co-author of Lucid SEO and the Lucid SEO blog. I was busy with lots of other things in my life at that time, doing some MLM and keeping up with the family and I didn’t take much notice when my husband mentioned The Nettle, the newsletter that David writes.

In the interim, we moved up here to Scotland from Leeds, where we knew David. I have fibromyalgia, and it means it’s difficult for me to comit to a job because my health can be very up and down.  However, since I am usually much better in the summer, I always look for some work I can do for the summer months. It is usually poorly paid part-time work but it did give me a sense of dignity, that I was contributing something.

Well this summer I discovered selling books on Amazon. I was very pleased to do something from home, especially as I have a little boy not at school (21 months). So I get to it and buy books here and there and some money starts to trickle in, fantastic.

Because of this though, now I am on a mailing list, and advertised on it was an ebook about Clickbank. I bought it and thought WOW! this is great, why doesn’t everyone do this? It’s so simple! (Simple is different from easy though - I hadn’t realised it yet!)

When I told my husband about it, he told me: “You should phone David (Congreave) he talks about that stuff in the Nettle.”  I phoned David and we had a chat about it, he gave me some advice, and I joined his mailing list.  Then on  the mailing list there was information about a seminar. I phoned David and he said to me “it’s not necessary to go to a seminar, but of all the people I know that are successful, they go to the seminars.”

So I took the money that I had made from selling the books on Amazon, and I booked my train and my hotel. David paid for anyone on his mailing list to have a ticket, so that was ok. It was a brilliant seminar, I learned loads and loads, and the thing that stood out most to me was that I needed a mentor.  I also knew I couldn’t really afford one just yet.

The other thing that stood out was a young welsh guy who had been to the seminar before and had paid attention and made some serious money. It was like the enthusiasm was bursting out of his body, he was nervous and Sean Roach kept saying sit down, there was a chair for him on the stage, but he was so passionate it was like he could hardly keep still. I think the audience was more nerve-racking for him standing up so he did sit down and told us about what had happened to him, including the Oil Rig Illustration. Of course, it was Alex Jeffreys.

I went home with renewed enthusiasm, I worked hard and tried a few things that I learned on the course, but at the back of my mind I knew I needed a mentor. I thought about it and decided the one thing I knew I could make some money with were the books and eBay. So I kept on with that, and kept busy, still reading anything I could lay my hands on about internet marketing. I read all the emails from all the gurus that I had subscribed to, and of course I read David Congreaves emails too.

And that is how I got a copy of Gurus Dream - I saw the picture and thought, hang on, I recognise that guy. When I read the report I mailed Alex and told him I thought it was great, and he mailed me right back. I was impressed with that - here was a guy that responded to my emails. That got me on Alex mailing list, and that is how I knew when the mentoring became available. By this time I was convinced that Alex was genuine, and I signed up as soon as I could.

So that’s how I came to be on this course. Many thanks to David Congreave - check out his blog here - TheLucidBlog.com.

Ok, so that’s my story, what about yours?

Best wishes,

Ruth

MySpace Traffic!

Hello Guys!

Fantastic module last night, I didn’t come offline until half three, couldn’t sleep for another hour because I was so stoked.

It wasn’t all the module though (sorry Alex). Before the module I happened to glance at a YouTube video about traffic. The man showed he jumped onto the first page of Google in two days. I thought, well, nothing ventured nothing gained, and before the module I put a video on MySpace.

When I got off the module I looked at Google. For putting in my name, Ruth Stewart, I had gone from 12th place, to fifth place. For Alex Jeffreys List Building I had gone from page three to page two. That was in a few hours. I haven’t checked this morning because I really wanted to get this on my blog.

The sad thing is I havent yet been able to find the YouTube video that I watched, but there are loads on YouTube so you wont have any trouble finding one. Just get a MySpace account and get a video up, if you are the sort of person who watches their place in Google. The higher up we are, the more likely to get organic traffic to our sites and blogs.

Ok, now I have got that off my chest, I can go read all your comments, and then maybe get a couple of hours more sleep. Unless I get too giddy about something else then I wont be able to again!!!

Even my dog looks at me like I am crazy!

Best wishes,

Ruth

Third Video!

Hello,

I finished off the third video today. It has a few effects and I am speaking on it (blush) and I still have a bit of a cold, but well take a look and see what you think.

I have also added it on my Squidoo lens, which isn’t coming up at the moment, I am not sure why exactly as it does have a ranking number (a huge one! that means I am way down the list) so I really have no idea. I have read somewhere that Google loves Squidoo but I am not sure where I read it, I guess I will find out if it does anything for my ranking.

I have to say that my husband helped with the video, with the timing and the effects. He is moaning about his left eye - not sure why that one particularly but who knows with husbands?

As I have had obvious trouble with videos I am not going to put it on here, just do a link.

I am really looking forward to Module 4 tomorrow, I can’t wait to hear Alexs’ information. I have never understood Pay Per Click and much about keywords so I know I will have a lot to learn.

Right, lets go and see if YouTube have finished processing this vid!

Nope, not yet, I will add it as soon as I can.

I want to send this blog this side of midnight, I will add the video as soon as possible!

Best wishes,

Ruth

Traffics Little Helpers!

Hello there,

I promised I would tell you about a couple of products that I have used, both of which are pretty good. These are products that are great for getting traffic to your site, using video.

The first one is a site called Hey,Spread! (www.heyspread.com). At Hey,Spread! you can upload your videos and they will post them to up 17 different video websites. You need to register with them first, but you can do that easily at the Hey,Spread site.

This site isn’t free, but its really not hugely expensive at 3cents per video per site. So if you upload one video to all 17 sites it will cost a fairly reasonable 51 cents. You can prepay through PayPal and very quickly have your videos uploaded all over!

Hey,spread will also let you see how your traffic has been for the videos you have uploaded, which is 21cents. It’s a great site for when you are starting out because it means your videos are on lots of different sites, all generating organic traffic for your site, and the cost is easily controllable, you do what you can afford.

The big brother to Hey,Spread is a formidable, powerful traffic provider called Traffic Geyser. Now, Internet Marketing Supremo, Frank Kern refers to this as “A Black Box That Prints Money” and I can see his point. It does so much!

If you have a video, it will send out your video to video sites like YouTube and others, it will link up to podcasts and RSS feeds; it will basically spread your video over 35 different places, far and wide!

If you haven’t made a video - fear not! Because not only does Traffic Geyser have a Slideshow Creator which will help you make a slideshow and then turn it into a video for you; also it has a huge amount of tutorial videos to walk you step by step through the whole process. If that isn’t enough, there is a forum where helpful people give advice to newer clients. There is also a very motivating Success Stories section on the forum, with everyone saying how they got to page one of Google (often against hundreds of thousands of entries).

Now, as you can imagine, this is somewhat more expensive than Hey,Spread!

BUT……I went on and was offered the Platinum Package - when I said no thank you I was offered the Gold Package to try for 30 days, for $1! After which its $99 per month. Well, I thought, it could be worth a try. To be honest I haven’t used it as much as I would have liked to because I have been very busy with www.listbuildingwithaj.com and this blog, but I think it could be great in the right hands.

So there you are, in my opinion, both worth a look!

Best wishes,

Ruth

Ruth Stewart Marketing Vs List building Alex Jeffreys

Hello,

There is something that is bugging me, I have to say. You know when people say: “Oh I am at page one of Google” why do they never say what they put in? I can be page one of google if I put in Ruth Stewart Marketing, but I think it’s not likely that many people will put that into Google. If I put in list building Alex Jeffreys then I am not on page one - position one is www.nicheweapons.com, and  fellow student - congratulations Austin!

I guess my point is, so long as something of yours is on the internet, then you could be Google number one depending on how specific a title you put in.

Wouldn’t it be good if one of us could knock Tellman Knudson off the top spot when we put list building into Google? Now that would be a great achievement.

Back to videos, anyone serious about videos may like to take a look at www.videomarketingqueen.com this lady, Maria Andros is the top dollar for making videos, it might be good to go and have a look at hers.

Ok, now I need to get back to work, I will speak to you all again soon,

Best wishes,

Ruth

Microphone!

Hi,

I tried to add voice to a video but it didn’t work too well, I used a rubbish mic. I have ordered a new one from Amazon so that should be here in a few days. Normally I would be pacing the floor for it, but actually I have a cold so my voice is a bit rough anyway. Hopefully it will be back to normal for the time the microphone arrives. In the meantime, I may put the video up just with music in the background, especially as I have had another idea regarding the videos.

The microphone I ordered is a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone; I don’t know much about microphones but it had 22 reviews, 20 of which were five out of five and the other two were four out of five so I figured it would probably be ok.

I have also decided that I need to make the vids more “squeeze page-ish” so I am going to look through my file of good squeeze pages and see what I can ermmmmmmm (trying to think of a better word than “steal”) adapt to the videos to make them more compelling.

The kids and I had a great time today, I took them out for lunch at one of our favourite kid-friendly restaurants and then let them come with me to do the shopping. My number one son had earned some money which he spent on some toys, and number two son had a great time running about on his reins, which was new for him. I have been really busy on the computer, there are only so many times I can say “mummy’s busy”, so it was lovely to spend some time with them and have a relax.

My daughter is delighted that I have let her take over the Amazon side of the business with my husband Paul. She is fifteen and when she wants to be she is a real hard worker. I am hoping it’s going to make them work together and maybe get on a bit better - he is her step-dad, it’s always a bit stressful.

RIght, now I need to put the little birds and Titus (African Grey) to bed, and let the dogs out.

I hope everyone had a great and productive day,

Best wishes,

Ruth

Another Video!

Hello there!

Hello!

I have been busy today making another video (what me? Obsessed? Noooooooooo!). I have started to write a little ebook with step by step pictures for…..well anyone really. I have downloaded a free trial of Sony Vegas Pro 8, which is a programme so I can put voice and music to the slides. It’s pretty expensive at £415 but we will see what has happened after the thirty day trial! It’s a good way to see if its worth it.

So maybe by the end of the evening I might have a video with voice, which will be good and an improvement. It depends on how this software goes, there are lots of buttons on it. Still I will give it a whirl. I need to wander round a few more blogs as well because I haven’t visited everyone yet.

So, still lots to do, as usual! Still I am trying to be productive. If I ever get a chance to have some quality time to myself it will be a good thing too - I am trying to sort my messes - as Raymond Aaron says - and now I have a desk to put my laptop on which is great. So things moving in the right direction.

I have to get a hang of the To Do List, and the Did List, I am trying to get better at them, but it’s not really become a habit yet.

Right, got to get off now and do some work,

Best wishes to you all!

Ruth

Listbuilding video 1

At last here they are! I really hope you enjoy them!

I knew nothing at all about videos but I sort of taught myself with the help of YouTube. If you want to know anything about them or how to do anything with videos I will do my best to help.

I have to go now and try and install some widgets! I’ll let you know how I get on.

Best wishes,

Ruth

D’oh!

Hello,

Well no videos on because I realized I had made a spelling mistake on the video - and it was only Alex Jeffreys name - and you know I offered to proofread for him! Sorry about that Alex!

Now it’s corrected the clip is up and I am happy to say I have done another one. It makes me laugh, the second one, because there is practically a fanfare when a picture of Alex comes up. I hope I can put them both up here, then you can see them, and perhaps let me know what you think, if you would.

I must say I downloaded some software called Snag-it which I would highly recommend. It’s really easy to use and at the moment they have a free 30 day trial. You don’t need to give them your credit card and then cancel it later (which can be a pain in the neck) you simply have it for the 30 days.

You can then use it to take *photos* of anything on your screen. So to get Alex picture, I went to his report Guru’s Dream, and then snagged his photo, cropped it a bit (Snagged-it has a cropping feature) and put it on the slide. Voila! One picture of the man on my video!

I can’t tell you how much good it will do having YouTube videos on the web just yet, but I will let you know. I can tell you though, that making videos is great fun.

Anyway, hopefully later I really will get the videos up on here!

Best wishes,

Ruth
