Wealthy Affiliate Member Says: Never Give In!

*Looks round at the dust piling up………………*

Yep I haven’t been around for about a month. I took July off to spend some time with my family, plus I had one or two items that needed some time spent on them away from the internet.

As I come back people are talking about another Google slap. It seems to me that there isn’t much information about the slap that is utterly quantifiable right now. One thing I have heard is that Google doesn’t like affiliate marketers and it is us that are getting slapped hardest.

If any of my readers are concerned about this, I would like to direct you to a guy I have been following for a while and who makes a whole lot of sense, Andrew Hansen. You can read his thoughts on Google slap.

So, one of the reasons I took some time off was because I was totally fed up with affiliate marketing, internet marketing, the whole nine yards.

I felt pulled in all sorts of directions, I felt let down by people I respected, and I felt that perhaps this just wasn’t going to be the career for me. I think many of us feel like that from time to time.  Taking a month out has given me time to think about what I want to do and where I have been going wrong.

Many of you will know that I have been internet marketing for about a year now. I am sad to admit that I do not yet earn enough to “fire my boss”. I did seriously think about giving up the whole deal, canceling my Aweber and Hostgator accounts and heading back to what some consider normality. But there is something inside me that knows that this can work, and that it will work for me.

I have gathered so much information in the last year, so much knowledge, that surely it must count for something? It feels like I have all the pieces of the jigsaw but I just need to line them all up right.

Then I realised what was missing. It is fairly embarrassing to admit but what I have lacked is consistancy.

I know I need to keep doing things day after day to make the links and get the recognition I need to succeed. I need to be seen as an expert in my niche, and I need my site to have links, great links.

For your information, I have tried a few link shortcuts and frankly they do not work. I have added my site to link directory after link directory - don’t bother. Unless you have a page on your site that has a load of reciprocal links (who would want that anyway, it would ruin your SEO techniques) then you really shouldn’t waste time with that.

I believe that in order to get good quality links you need to think about what you are putting out there. Get links these ways:

Putting articles on EzineArticles. GoArticles or similar

Making Squidoo lenses, or hubpages, or ehow to’s

Writing good comments on peoples blogs. By which I mean not “great blog interesting info” type comments - add some value people! I get hundreds of comments that are just a waste of time. I mark them as spam.

When you pay good money for links, I think those are the links people make. Generic meaningless comments that just get deleted.

So make it meaningful, add some value, give an opinion, help someone out, that way your comments will be appreciated.

Use forums. Most of them will allow a signature. This is a great way to build a reputation, build relationships. You can easily add value to a discussion in your particular niche. Every time you add value people will not only see that you know what you are talking about, but they will also see your signature with your website on it. It’s another link.

I read somewhere that a new site needs about 1,000 links. That sounds like a huge amount, but if you are consistant (see it comes back to that again!) that amount is possible. Decide how long you want to work on your site before it becomes successful, pulling in many visitors per day. 100 days? So you need to produce ten links a day.

I have a site that is a few months old and it has links, a few. Some internal links too, of course, they are vital. But I am going to work hard on it. I am going to invest some time in it.

Every single day in August I am going to add an article to my site, to EzineArticles, plus to anywhere else I can where I can add value. I am aiming at ten links per day. I will not be checking email every five minutes, hanging out on twitter, chatting on the phone, or any other distraction. My daily goal is ten links which add value. Until I do that everything else can wait. It is my attempt at consistancy.

As always, my friends, I will let you know how I get on.

Best wishes,

Ruth

Wealthy Affiliate Member Advises: Links - the lifeblood of the internet

Hi there,

I know a few people signed up to affiliate windows after my previous post. I wonder if you have made a squidoo lens? Is it sitting there doing nothing? Have you made any money yet? Are you getting traffic to your lens?

Putting up a squidoo lens is not enough to make you loads of money. If it was as easy as that, everyone would be doing it.

What you need is links. Links mean Google can see who you are linked to, and you get kudos by association. The more links you have the more possibilities for traffic to your lens. The more traffic to your lens the more likely you are to get sales!

If you have something you are passionate about, and you make a lens on that, it is easier because you probably know a bit about your subject.

That is great because you can add value to your lens, and it will make it more attractive to traffic.

But you do need to let people know you are there.

One great way to do that is to use forums. Most forums allow you to add a signature to your postings. If you put the address of your lens in there, then whenever you post your lens link will be seen and possibly clicked on.

I have a link, just one, on a forum and that link alone gets me 5-15 visitors a week to one of my lenses.

Obviously the best forums to choose are ones that get a lot of traffic themselves. Find one where there are other people passionate about your subject, that ask questions. When you answer the questions you will get publicity for your lens. A busy forum is a great resource!

Another way is to post comments on peoples blogs. Don’t just go to any old blog and write about your subject, find people with similar interests.

If you go to www.icerocket.com you can put in the keywords you need and it will come up with blogs that have postings on those keywords.

If you like you can use one of the many free page rank checkers to find blogs with high page rank. Google ranks pages from 0 to 10, 10 being the highest. For example, squidoo.com is currently ranked 8 I believe.  Not every site has a ranking, but as soon as your site gets ranked you will see a sharp rise in traffic.

Anyway, I digress, back to links and your squidoo lens.

Another way to get links is to use your rss feed. If you look on the left of your lens you will see the symbol used for rss feeds, the orange square. You can click on that, and you will get the code for your own personal rss feed. This can then be submitted to various rss feed directories. Try feedage.com and feedest.com.

Another way to get traffic is to join squidoo groups. First make sure that your lens comes up on Google though, put the full title of the lens in “” and do  a search for it. If it comes up then start joining squidoo groups. There are groups for every subject plus there are general groups also. By joining these you can increase your traffic as people will visit you from your group. Be sure to return the favour and rank, lensroll and favourite your new friends lenses.

Another way to increase your web presence is to make more than one lens.  You can link the lenses together using the introductory module, and this makes you look like more of an expert in your field.

Don’t limit yourself to squidoo lenses. Try eHowto.com, and hubpages.com.

You could even set yourself up a weebly website which is easy and free. You can start yourself off a blogger blog, again easy and free, and write in it regularly.  Add links to your lenses and also add the rss feed of your blog to your lens, that way your lens gets new information on it regularly to help attract traffic.

Here are a couple of video tutorials you may find useful:

Do let me know if you have any questions, I am here to help.

Best wishes,
Ruth

Wealthy Affiliate Member

Hi!

I have found something great and at the moment it is no cost, you may want to visit. I warn you there is some pretty powerful stuff going on. www.trafficdynasty.com. Great information. Really, top notch information. To me, they put the finishing touches on my understanding of internet marketing.

You know sometimes you can get lots of different pieces of the puzzle, and you kind of put it together, and you can sort of see what is going on and how it works? Then you get those last couple of pieces and then all the pieces fit together and you get to see the whole picture! Well when I listened to these guys information I got the last few pieces of the puzzle and suddenly it all fit together and I understood it.

So if you are learning internet marketing and you want somewhere to learn - and at the minute it is no cost - then that is the place to go. I am not going to make a link for you because if you want it, you have to want it enough to copy and paste it into your browser. No good spoon feeding you!

Ok, I am going to go and be successful!

I will keep you updated as ever, but just in case you are serious about making money doing internet marketing, well then the secret is out!

All the best guys, see you on the forum!

Ruth

Wealthy Affiliate Member - hurrah!

Hello!

I am still here!

I have started week four of the Wealthy Affiliate course, and this week we are building sites. I have mentioned Site Rubix, it is the website builder for Wealthy Affiliate, and it is as good as I have been told, very easy to use.

My problem at the moment is what to do next. I have lots of things promoting Wealthy Affiliate but what occurs to me is this. People at Wealthy Affiliate are obviously very well educated  in article marketing, SEO, all the things you need to become a great affiliate marketer. Now by me promoting Wealthy Affiliate, I am going up against all those well educated marketers. There is some pretty stiff competition out there!

As a Wealthy Affiliate member, we have available to us NicheQ.  NicheQ is a selection of niches that are all pre-researched for us, and as part of our membership we can pick one per month.

Each NicheQ niche we pick has all the information we need about that particular niche, all the keywords researched, articles which we can read through and change (got to be original content for Google) and just huge quantities of information, statistics, affiliate products we can promote - literally everything we need to do a huge campaign. So it would be easy for me to change.

The thing is I like Wealthy Affiliate. I know there are loads of newbies out there just like I was, looking desperately for answers, for step-by-step information and the support they need to make money on the internet. I relate to them. I want them to look and see if Wealthy Affiliate is for them. I think if you truly honestly believe you have the answer to peoples problems, if you know you have a great solution, then that is where your heart lies, you have to stick with it.

So I guess I will stick with promoting Wealthy Affiliate then - I have answered my own question.

When I have my new site up and running - that will be this week - I will include the address in my blog post so you can all go and critique it for me!

In the meantime, if I can help you in any way, please let me know.

Best wishes,

Ruth

Wealthy Affiliate Member Still!

Hello,

Yes, I am still around. I have been away for a week at Mothers, so no possibility of getting any significant work done there. I am still learning loads at Wealthy Affiliate and really enjoying my time there. I am still learning so much, and I am thinking about offering my new found skills to local businesses.

I think my experience of getting my squidoo lenses ranking pretty highly in Google, especially in a quite competitive arena, will help me be able to get most local businesses ranking highly, plus now my website building skills are rapidly improving, I could offer a good service all round.

I have Wealthy Affiliate to thank for this new found knowledge, and I am pleased to say it has been a huge eye-opener to me. I believe that, although I have not made huge amounts of money yet,  it will come. Although I have been at Wealthy Affiliate for four weeks now, only three of them have been spent working (because of visiting Mothers) but by the time I have reached the end of the course, then I will be well on my way to earning a good income online.

If you would like to have a look at my squidoo lenses, here are the links:

http://www.squidoo.com/Marketing-Mums-List-Building-Ladies-

and finally, my pet lens (not to do with Wealthy Affiliate)

http://www.squidoo.com/good-pet-stuff-for-kids

So they are my squidoo lenses, please feel free to let me know what you think of them.

I am not going to be doing much on Wealthy Affiliate for the next four days, because on Tuesday I have my theory driving test! I am pretty nervous and I will be studying like mad for it. I am so hoping to pass it and then pass my driving test. I even have a car sitting on the road next to my house, so I have something to drive as well.

I hope all my readers are doing well with whatever they are planning, as ever feel free to drop me a message if you think I can help in any way.

All the best,

Ruth

Wealthy Affiliate Member Speaks Out!

Hello,

I am just taking a minute to write this, very busy with wealthy affiliate at the minute. I am on week three, and we are covering the importance of relevance when doing keyword research, also when doing  PPC and  - it’s very comprehensive!

Next week we are going more into depth on landing pages, and so on and so forth. Because they have a site builder I should say it will be a lot easier than building with html. I think it would be good to know some HTML but at least it isn’t essential. Fortunately there is free hosting, so hopefully I will have my site up very soon, looking at the very least ok, but I hope it will look great.

Nevertheless, I don’t mind, so long as it does good business.

I have had 15 clicks on the website from my free marketing but the click to purchase rate is 30 : 1 which means for every thirty people who go on the site one will buy the product. That is a little over three percent so I guess that is about normal. The more free marketing I do though, the more the clicks increase, so I need to keep doing that as well as studying the new information that is put out every week.

Some people who started around the same time as me have started to make a profit - I am a little bit envious but they tend to be able to work eight hour days at Wealthy Affiliate which I am not able to do.

I truly believe the education I am getting with Wealthy Affiliate is second to none, and I cannot wait for the day that I come on here and tell you that I have made a sale and a profit.

At least in the meantime I am getting a great education and that is worth more than gold.

Until next time, best wishes,

Ruth

List Building is back!

Hello!

I have been at my mothers again, that is why you haven’t heard much from me. The thing about my family is that they don’t really understand about internet marketing, and they don’t understand that it’s important for me to work! They do not see “playing on the computer” as work, which makes it difficult to do anything while I am there. I tend to get accused of being unsociable!

Back to traffic - the competition I spoke about in December closed and I am delighted to say that Jim Gallgher of www.kotobot.com won the prize with a huge amount of traffic. Well done Jim!

You may well notice that many of the tips I have given here are ones that Jim has suggested, what a fantastic reward for being so helpful to so many people.

Last week we had a bonus module on the coaching course by Alex Jeffreys. It was given by the wonderful Maria Andros who is also known as the Queen of Video. She is great and gave huge amounts of information and tips on video marketing. The new competition is about making a video, there will be two prizes of $1,500 dollars each. Maria Andros will help Alex judge the videos, so it’s very exciting. I am also pleased that Maria recommends one of the products that I also use, Traffic Geyserwhich is a real plus for spreading out traffic all over the internet - over forty different sites including RSS feeds and podcasts.

I am about half way through catching up with module five on the coaching programme, so I will be writing more about this tomorrow when I finish it. It  is high calibre stuff, very interesting and as always Alex manages to put things over in a really easy to understand way.

So, I will be back again tomorrow to give more of the outstanding information that is provided. Until then,

Best wishes,

Ruth

List Building - Article Writing

bodyforblogbig5Things are chugging along ok. I have found a great ebook about the psychology of customers which was expensive at $107, but nevertheless very interesting.

I wanted to tell you about some new article directories that have come to my attention. These are:

Buzzle.com

Searchwarp.com

Area219.com

These are, I hear, popular with Google. I have tried Area219 and they have an author bio box which is permanent - very handy. Although of course you have to be careful if you are promoting something specific, it has to remain very general.

Area219 allows affiliate links.

I haven’t tried the other two, as you know I am at my mothers house so work is somewhat limited.

Late tonight is the fifth module of the mentoring programme, and video queen Maria Andros is speaking, I am going to listen to the module tomorrow when it goes up on the members site. I will let you know what I find out, I am looking forward to having a go and making some more videos though. Also there is a competition with a prize money of $3,000, so that may prove to be rather interesting also.

Oh, one last tip. If you want to improve your page rankings, get a hubpage. I went from number five and six to four and five over night after I put up a hubpage. My hubpage is at http://hubpages.com/hub/List-Building-and-Traffic so give it a visit and a nice rating for me please!

Best wishes,

Ruth

List Building - Psychology!

Embedded serial-to-Wi-Fi module
Image via Wikipedia

bodyforblog9

Well I have been doing the usual stuff for my list building. I have also come down to Mums for a week, with number two son, and there was no wi fi on the train so today actually I haven’t even managed a classified ad.

What I have been doing is some reading some marketing material, because you know I think my copywriting - well to be honest, is sucks. So I have been trying to get my head round some information about psychology, and the psychology of marketing.

I have found this site, and I found it via copyblogger.com, it’s called psychotactics.com. Very interesting stuff, and so I am trying to change all my classified to include lots of psychological who harr, to encourage people to join my list.  Apparently it’s important to empathise with the customers pain, also important to show the cost value of the product you are marketing.

I am pleased to learn that Garry Parkes has done the second edition of his fabulous newsletter. I only sent the last one out a little while ago, because people are so busy during the holidays, I thought perhaps they wouldn’t have time to read it.

I haven’t really got anything new to tell you, so I am going to say goodnight now, I hope everyone is doing well.

Will give you all the news as it occurs!

Best wishes,

Ruth
