Tools That Help List Building

bodyforblog3Today I want to talk about one of the tools that I have used to get my traffic so far. Over the last couple of weeks I have been driving lots of traffic to this blog, but I haven’t had the sign-ups that I have wanted.

So for the next few days until the next module of training (Thursday) I have been directing some of my paid traffic through to my squeeze page to see if it does any better. It’s not on advice from Alex, but it’s just something I wanted to try for myself.

So, tools. For everything anyone ever wanted to build, there are tools, and list building is no exception. I have told you about a few of the ones I have liked over the past couple of weeks, but there is one  more that I have been testing that I want to tell you about also.

The first one is free, so off to a great start there! It consists of three pieces of software, the first is very useful to us because it let’s the user know if a blog has “no-follow” plug-ins. This means if  you go to the trouble of writing on the blog, and it does have the no-follow plug-ins, then you won’t get the benefit of trackbacks to your blog. You can then concentrate on the blogs that do allow trackbacks and this will improve your general rank. Remember what Alex says about associating yourself with leaders? Well this part of the software helps with that.

The other piece of software that it contains checks other peoples sites Alexa rank and what back links it has, which can be useful because sometimes sites can have back links to undesirable sites, which Google spiders might not like.

There is another piece of software but to be honest I didn’t use, and don’t really know how to explain but it does apparently help with SEO. The link for all these free pieces of software is here.

There is another thing I want to show you and maybe you will think this is cheesy, but I was shown something similar recently and it motivated me.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1HNHbucBXrA

There you go, I hope it works for you too. I try and remember this when gathering the list seems to be an up hill battle, and not one that I am winning.

Right, thats me off to bed, it’s 12.14am here!

Best wishes,

Ruth

Blogging traffic

Today I want to talk about two ways of getting traffic. Both are great fun! This comes as a surprise because most of the traffic tips that I have shared lately have seemed to involve cash, and neither of these do, hurrah!

The first one is a traffic exchange, and this was recommended to me by Kotobot.com, Jim Gallagher. Truly a person who knows what he is talking about with over 5,000 visits to his blog! Marvellous.

Anyway, it’s called Blogclicker and its fun. Jim says he gets around 100 people a day for doing ten minutes looking at other peoples blogs. Well, I have had a go and I think it’s great fun looking at blogs, I was planning on just doing ten minutes or so when I glanced at the clock half an hour had gone by!  I thoroughly recommend this one, for the sheer fun factor. I am not so keen when I don’t understand the language of the blog - but nearly always they are in English, so that’s good.

The second one I want to tell you about is www.icerocket.com. It is a site that lists blogs, and it shows the latest blog posts. You put in the keywords that you want to highlight or read about, say affiliate marketing or list building, and it will show you all the latest blog posts that use those keywords. This is good fun also, and you can learn some interesting stuff. For instance I found a blog that has a list of all the traffic exchanges that the person recommended.

I plan on having a look at them and if I feel its a good deal or good idea I will let you know, of course.

I nearly forgot my lady of the day, here she is.

I hope you all had a wonderful first day of 2009, I certainly did.

Best wishes,

Ruth

List Building with Alex Jeffreys - getting traffic.

bodyforblog5I was thinking about traffic, you know, of the cars vans and lorries variety. Real traffic. The really heavy traffic comes when everyone is heading the same way, usually around holiday time, and its usually because they are off to do something fun.

So to get traffic to our blogs, we need to make sure something fun is happening here at our blogs.

We we were kids we hated the teachers who would just stand and talk, lecturing us. We bloggers don’t want to have the same reputation as those teachers! Adults don’t like lectures either.

So from now on, I am going to tell you the things I have been doing to get traffic in a short snappy and (hopefully) sometimes humourous way.

If you look down the side bar of this blog you can see I have a new pic, about internet forums. Internet forums are great because you can go in there, help people, get a good reputation and have your url in the signature at the bottom of your comment. This forum goes one further, if you leave comments and refer people, they let you put up banners. So not only do you benefit yourself you benefit others, then benefit yourself again! Fantastic!

Second thing - you know when you see that item on QVC and you buy it, and then forget it in the kitchen cupboard? We have all done it - it seemed like a great idea at the time! Well, don’t do what I did and forget a traffic exchange I had signed up with for free, I went there today because someone had sent me a message - and realized I had credits that I could swap for traffic! So I quickly spent those to get some traffic here, of course.

Remember, if you want to learn much more about building your list, getting good traffic and building your business in 2009, sign up to the ebook, List Building with Alex. He is our guide, and the whole team are learning loads.

Best wishes,

Ruth

You can reply!

bodyforblog1Hello,

You can leave a reply! Well I would love to tell you that I am exceedingly clever and I worked out exactly what the problem is, but no, it’s entirely fluke!

I would just like to thank Dan, who helped, and all the other people that comiserated, especially Wendy Wood - who I accidentally ignored on forum. Still sorry, Wendy.

I will blog with traffic tips later on, but for now, I am just happy to have a functioning blog!

Best wishes,

Ruth

Article marketing and how to build a list

Hello there!

Do you sometimes feel you have lots of information swirling round your head in no particular order? I do. What I do when that happens is I do a brain dump - I write down everything I can think of thats buzzing around in there and I write it down. Great for clearing the mind.  Our mentor Alex Jeffreys taught us that, among many other things.

I have written an article today and put it on to my favourite article site which is www.goarticles.com. It’s my favourite because it puts the articles up really quickly. Some article sites take weeks to put up articles which I personally find very annoying. If you have made a mistake with goarticles they tell you straight away - you cannot actually post an article with what they consider a mistake in it. Which is so much better than some of them.

The most popular one is ezine articles, which have a human check the articles and they are very strict. One thing that I learned recently is that, contary to popular opinion, you can have active links in ezine articles provided they are after the third paragraph. I am going to write one for ezines next and see if  I can confirm this from personal experience. If I can, of course, I will let you know.

I have not got a great deal to tell you today about anything I have been doing about traffic. I have got myself into a little routine of doing six tasks on a daily basis. These aren’t always successful - for instance I don’t always find myself able to make ten comments on forums, but that is what I aim for. I guess with everyone being on holiday around this time, less people are online asking questions!

So, I will leave you in peace, and let you know any other ideas and thoughts I have when they happen!

Best wishes,

Ruth

Traffic - rich, Listing building - ?

Hello!

Well I am still getting traffic, which for the day is pretty good. But I wouldn’t know about list building because aweber are not in their offices until Saturday. I hope they are having a lovely time.

Yesterday I managed to sort out RSS on this blog, which I hope will have a positive effect. I have claimed my blog at technorati and I was recommended onlywire. Onlywire is a company that will send your blog posts to many different social bookmarking sites all at once. This has the effect of getting your writing out there for people to comment on, almost taking your word to them, rather than them coming ot you.

Onlywire had dual membership, one is free and one you pay for,  but it is $25 per year, which to me is a reasonable charge for what it is. My mum used to say £1 is a lot of money if you  haven’t got it; I am always reluctant to say “only”, because it does all depend on your perspective. But I think it is a way to get people to read your blog and maybe come back to it. And free is good!

Another traffic targeting tip I came across on Jim Gallaghers blog is RAD or Revolving Ads Depot.  You need to go there and see the ads, they look good. There is free membership or paid membership, paid is $25 but that is for a lifetime. So I guess it depends on how long you live to see how much value it is! He he he!

Anyway, both those sites are worth a look.

I am off now to do some more bits and pieces, anything I find that looks good I will come back and tell you all about of course.

Many people are on holiday today I believe - I hope you are all having a good time in your tinsel worlds!

Best wishes,

Ruth

List Building and being the best you can be!

Introspective album cover
Image via Wikipedia

Hello!

Well, first things first. You know some days come along and you do everything you are supposed to, and your To Do list looks the same as your Did Today list (plus a bit more, because I am a girlie swat). I had one of those yesterday. So today I bounced out of bed, thinking I could do the same today, and that perhaps I am actually becoming one of those wonderwomen that can do everything all the time!

Ooooooooh NO! Sadly, today has not been one of those days. Today was a day that I failed to get a grip on. I have done some work - I have made some progress, but with none of the smugness of yesterday. There are still things that I could have done and perhaps should have done but didn’t. Anyway, that is enough introspection, now time for the useful stuff.

I have wandered round quite a few blogs, and I have discovered a few things I really don’t like. Firstly, I don’t like being lectured to so I want to say sorry, if anyone has felt that I have done that. Secondly, I really do like pictures, especially bright ones!

I was really pleased to find this blog because this man, he has done a list of tips for bloggers, and I thought it was really very good - tips for bloggers. His name is Chris Brogan, he has a lot of experience writing blogs, and I felt he could give some good advice.

Now traffic. The thing about traffic is that you need to be able to measure it. You need your google analytics to work. Mine doesn’t, I don’t think.

I have got a traffic tip for you though. There is a company called Hits2U.comand they give you seven days free traffic, if you recommend three people though, that changes to 365 days free traffic! Cool! As is usual with these things, you can pay and then you get more exposure, but you don’t have to. I have signed up with them, I will let you know how it goes (if I can get GoogleAnalyzer to work that is!)

Another way of getting the word out about yourself and your site or blog or whatever, is to go on forums. There are many about, and you can usually put your blog or site or both in the signature box. So then if you keep at it you will get known for giving good advice. Like a blog, your reply will be there for a long time, so it can be clicked on and you can get traffic from it for a long time.

Right I am off now, going to twitter and do a few other bits and pieces.

You can follow me on twitter here: http://twitter.com/Gale10

I look forward to hearing from you all,

Best wishes,

Ruth

List Building all over the world!

treck outs

Hello!

Well, good morning, and it is a good morning because I got traffic in the night!  I am so happy! I would thoroughly recommend Feedjit. It’s free, and it shows you not just how many people have come through your blog but also where they come from. Lots of pretty flags to go on your site. I feel like the traffic is zooming past>>>>>.

I just want a few of my lovely readers to sign up to the newsletter and maybe even get the List Building System. They will get all the information we have got to help us build a list of people all interested in their products! What could be better?

Also, regarding traffic, I have a link to an interesting article I found on ProBlogger.com. It gives three good tips on getting more traffic. It is quite an old article but the information is still relevant. Here it is:

http://www.problogger.net/archives/2005/12/30/three-simple-actions-that-doubled-my-website-traffic-in-30-days/

I also noticed that there were many people who were starting out in blogging and wanted to get more tips, which proves there are people out there looking for the kind of information on traffic that we are putting on our blogs.

I actually think that its interesting finding out all this stuff - even doing the research. It feels a bit like panning for gold, I feel great when I find a useful little nugget I can include.

If I find anything else interesting I will most certainly add it.

Until then, best wishes,

Ruth

Getting Traffic - another approach!

Hello,

I have done another thing to help to get traffic to this blog today, and registered with  three blog directories. One said it could triple the traffic, again I have no idea whether it will work wonders for my little blog here, but these things have to be worth a try.

I have also added some plugins, three-in-one SEO, and a Google sitemaps one. Google sitemaps is quite an important one because it enables Google to actually find your blog. You can make a site more appealing to Google by adding sitemaps in the html I believe but of course, we can’t mess with the html on Wordpress. Well, I certainly can’t anyway - I have had enough of disappearing blogs! (See below!) So the plugin will help your site be found on Google and thus increase your traffic.

We are supposed to be writing about traffic I know, but I would feel I was not being honest if I said “Oh yes this is definitely the way to get traffic.”  For someone inexperienced, like myself, it seems fairer to say well this is what I have thought of to try. Unless I am positive that it gets traffic I cannot personally recommend it. I hope people think that is fair.

I am going to try and do something new every day for the next twelve days at least, as well as the things I am more confident about.  I think although the competition is great motivation, I would feel bad if I hadn’t tried everything I could think of.

Anyway, I am off to tackle more of the days tasks.

Best wishes,

Ruth Stewart

Oh dear!

Hello,

Well I am sad to say I had to take the video off YouTube, because the writing wasn’t dark enough, it didn’t show up very well at all. I did it in a dark maroon, but it was white and colour in the middle, and it just looked too blurry, even after uping the quality. I am going to leave it now until after we have done module four of MarketingwithAlex.

Anyway, lots of bits and pieces to do today, I was going to take the boys out but I am still coldy and number two son is coughing a bit today, plus its pouring with rain (well it is Scotland!) so I will maybe leave it until the weekend. Number one son, age 6, wants to go to an interactive museum nearby, but I think perhaps number two son (20 months) will be bored. I will have to see.

So its back to work for me and lots of scraps to tidy up before the next challenge tonight from Module 4. I am going to make sure I have logins for as many social sites as possible ready, because that is what we are concentrating on,  traffic from social networking. I can’t think of any other way to prepare really.

Best wishes,

Ruth
